The Truth About Living With Your Lover

Everyone always said moving in with your significant other would be completely different; you would realize things about each other that you didn’t realize before, your habits may irritate each other, it would add more stress, etc. I also heard good things like that it feels as though you’re having a slumber party every night with your best friend and so on. Here are my thoughts now that Brandon and I have not even just moved in together, but moved across the world together:

It’s Not Different At All. Well at least not for us.

Maybe this is because we pretty much were living together since we began dating. We were friends before becoming romantic so we knew each other well when it got to that point. At the beginning of us dating we had a 36 day straight sleepover… that’s dedication. It was essentially a lot of Mario Kart, Fifa and Netflix but regardless, we were together 24/7 literally (the only time we were apart was really just when we went to work, and we would visit each other then anyways) so being together in the same house doesn’t feel any different nor irritating being around one person so long. I don’t get sick of Brandon and Brandon (hopefully) doesn’t get sick of me.

Being gross in front of each other? We were at the level immediately as well. I have friends who won’t go number 2 at their boyfriends house…where on the other hand… we have competitions. Living together hasn’t changed our strange and gross level of comfort with each other. It’s actually made it more fun because on days off we can lounge around in pjs all day with our teeth unbrushed. Gross. I know.

Bad habits that annoy me? None. I knew all of Brandon habits in the first month of dating since we were together all the time. He doesn’t like to do laundry and I don’t like to cook. He likes to cook and I like to do laundry. So any habits that were bad that we both had were resolved with the other’s love for it so we don’t have anything to argue about or annoy us after getting home from work. We both clean up after ourselves and we do the dishes together each night; I wash and he dries. We make everything a team activity and it works well that way.

Living together has not added any stress other than paying rent and bills now. I lived with my parents before hand and paid all my own bills except rent so this was a change but we have both our finances in one account and we both work so there’s no reason it should be stressful. We don’t spend stupid money and we work together to make sure our finances are in tact so BAM no stress.

I absolutely love living with my boyfriend. He’s my best friend so everyday is so fun together and just feels like a crazy adventure. Everyone’s experience is different. I’ve heard stories of girls moving in with boyfriends only to realize they are slobs and leave the toilet seat up (LOL sorry but it’s funny). I guess we all have different experiences and I was lucky enough to not endure any negative experiences with this new move in my life.

Three Weeks In Australia

Today marks exactly 3 weeks since we landed in this beautiful place! Brandon and I landed in Australia on February 16th and it feels like its been forever. We are still adjusting and getting settled because moving across the world to Brisbane was a BIG change but we are loving it here none the less.

Driving on the opposite side of the road is something that drives us both mad. The driving here is crazy and terrifying and I’m glad I won’t be driving at all during our stay. We have just been taking Ubers everywhere because its 1/3 of the price of a cab here. We took a cab once and definitely will NEVER ever be taking one again. The cab companies here are disgusting both in service and price. If you guys want to try Uber use my code “christinap6514ue” for a free ride 🙂

Going clubbing was an interesting experience here. People are rude compared to back home in Canada. I had about 6 drinks spilt on me without the person apologizing and most times without them even turning around to make eye contact. Most people smash right into you while drunkenly stumbling around and keep walking. Just so irritating. I was not that drunk yet to be chill with drinks spilt on me left and right. ANOTHER thing is the new law that was passed where you can’t have shots at the bar after midnight…. we both HATE this rule as I only do shots when I go out normally and we head down to the club for 11:45 ish so this just ruins everything. Oh well I guess. Not a super big deal but just a big bummer. Other than that the clubs are beautiful in Brisbane and there are a ton of stunning rooftop bars to drink at with a stunning view of the city.

The weather here is insanely beautiful. I feel like I’m a tropical island every day. It is very very hot and was hard to cope with at the beginning but I am used to it already and have learnt that most days I will not be wearing makeup outside because it will melt off in an hour. It’s so hard to find a dryer here though for clothes as most people just hang theirs to dry and I know this is so “naggy” of me but I hate waiting for clothes to dry and I hate the stiff feeling left on them after they are dried outside. Once again though, NOT a big deal.

One good thing is that I am a candy freak and eat way too much normally and here in Brisbane, finding the candy back home is pretty much impossible. They have Australian “chocs and lollies” here but none of which compare to my sweets back home so I have been eating a lot healthier since moving. Restaurants here also have way healthier menu items available. When going out to eat, the dining is completely different most places since I am guessing the waitresses do not make tips. One place, for example, that went to, you walk in and find a seat and grab a menu from the bar. Once you are ready to order you go up to the one bar and order your food and grab cutlery and they give you a Wait Timer Buzzer thingy (idk) and when it buzzes you go up and grab your food at the bar again. There was a separate bar for drinks that you can order and pay for there. They also have self serve water almost everywhere so there really is no service from a waitress at all yet the place appears identical to an upscale restaurant. Very different from what I’m used to but I enjoy it!

We checked out Gold Coast for a day which was beautiful! I have always dreamed of going there so it was lovely to see in person finally. Super convenient that it took only 45 min to get there on train. Loved that.

Brisbane has been good to us so far. We have many trips planned and upcoming so stay tuned to see vlogs and photo diaries of those 🙂 We just wanted to get permanently settled before flying away. Here are some photos of our move so far (warning: a lot of food pics haha). Hope you enjoyed this post, don’t forget to subscribe in the side bar for updates 🙂

Love you guys!

DIY Sugar Scrubs & Coffee Scrub

Sugar Scrubs are so underrated and I’ll never understand why. They make your skin feel amazing and are super cheap to actually make yourself. I used to want to order all the hyped up Instagram Coffee scrubs and other products to give me that smooth looking skin but then I realized it’s actually so easy to just make myself? Why spend the money when I can save and actually have way more sugar scrubs?! I’ve made a few myself so here I share some of my favourite sugar scrub/coffee scrub recipes (some I have found online). For those who don’t know, coffee has been found to help the appearance of cellulite by removing water and toning the skin. Sugar scrubs also help to buff away dry and dead skin cells gently on the skin. Enjoy! Tag me on Instagram if you happen to make your own scrub 🙂 @christinapetrovski

Health Benefits Of Avocado

I have a serious avocado addiction – ask anyone I know. I eat them almost daily and its something I don’t feel guilty about because they are actually really good for you! Finally something I’m obsessed with that isn’t pure sugar haha. Obviously avocados still need to be eaten in moderation but I will get to that in a bit. Here are facts about avocados that may make you like them a bit more:

  • They are high in potassium. They actually have more potassium than bananas!
  • They are high in fiber
  • They lower bad cholesterol and raise good cholesterol
  • They regulate blood sugar levels
  • They prevent birth defects
  • They slow down aging
  • They reduce the risk of stroke
  • They promote healthy bones
  • They protect against eye disease
  • They are anti-inflammatory
  • They aid in weight loss
  • They nourish your skin
  • They strengthen your immune system
  • They improve nutrient absorption
  • They can help prevent the growth and spread of cancerous cells
  • And many more…

Even thought avocados are clearly a superfood, they are high in fat and should be limited in your diet. A recommendation I found was eating 1-2 servings about 2-4 times per week. This is based off these nutrition facts:

In a single 1 oz serving, you’ll find:

  • 45 calories
  • 4 g of fat
  • 30 mg of omega-3 fatty acids
  • 473 mg omega-6 fatty acids
  • Vitamin A – 1% of RDV
  • Vitamin C – 5%
  • Vitamin K – 7%
  • Vitamin E – 3%
  • Vitamin B6 – 4%
  • Folate – 6%
  • Iron – 1%
  • Manganese – 2%
  • Copper – 3%
  • Magnesium – 2%
  • Potassium – 4%
  • Zinc – 1%

Hope you guys learnt something new in this article and will consider adding avocados into your diet!

The Many Uses Of Coconut Oil

Coconut Oil took the world by storm in the past few years and I’ve been obsessed with it for so long so I’m surprised I haven’t blogged about it sooner? This product is the most VERSATILE thing EVER. It amazes me how it works for literally everything, and for the those scent-irritated people, it has no smell what so ever… well at least in my opinion.

Here are the things I personally use coconut oil for:

1. Makeup Remover

Brands sell expensive cleansing oil to help breakdown your makeup. This is a pre cleanse and its used to help make washing your face easier since the makeup is already removed. I was tempted to buy this stuff until I realized coconut oil does the exact same thing. Simply put a bit in your palms and rub in between then begin rubbing all over your face in circular motion. Gently rub around the eyes to get rid of eye makeup and once finished, rinse with warm water then proceed to normal face washing with a gel cleanser.

2. Moisturizer

Coconut oil is very moisturizer especially for sensitive and dry flaky skin. My skin is super dry, I don’t get oily whatsoever so coconut oil is perfect for when i want soft dewy skin. I also use it for my legs so they look luminous and on my lips so they don’t crack and peel.

3. Cooking

Coconut oil is healthier compared to other oils so why not use it for cooking. It works just as well (never have noticed a different) and it doesn’t leave your food all greasy.

4. Hair Treatment

My hair is super dry and frizzy so once in a while, after I shower, I will rub coconut oil all over my damp hair and then twist it up in a top knot. I leave it on for a few hours while I watch movies or edit videos, etc and then rinse it out or I’ll even go to sleep and rinse it out in the morning. I like to add shampoo to it when rinsing because I do have a lot of hair and if I miss some it can look greasy, so the shampoo helps to prevent that.

5. Oil Pulling

I’ve only tried this a few times but oil pulling is starting to become a really popular teeth whitening method. There are many small companies starting up using social media as their main platform selling packets of flavoured coconut oil that you swish around in your mouth to help “pull” the oral bacteria and in turn help whiten your teeth. These companies charge a crazy amount for their product when you can swish regular coconut oil in your mouth from a $10 jar and achieve the same results.

5. Shaving

This goes hand in hand with the moisturizer but coconut oil works very well for shaving and getting a really close shave at that. I prefer this over shaving cream, which I truthfully never buy anymore.

6. Exfoliant

Lastly, I like to put coconut oil in a zip lock bag and add ground coffee to it to make a body and face scrub. This really exfoliates the skin but leaves the silkiest feel on your skin afterwards from the coconut oil. Highly recommend. The coffee helps to tighten and firm your skin and the texture is perfect for scrubbing away rough skin.

You can find coconut oil almost everywhere, from online to any grocery store around you.
